CSAT - Cold Spray Factoid #3
Did you know that cold spray was traditionally used for coatings and repairs? Here is our Day 3 cold spray factoid leading to CSAT and LSAAT next week:
Cold spray coatings typically exhibit lower porosity and oxide content compared to traditional thermal spray methods.
This is largely attributed to the high kinetic energy of the particles, which promotes mechanical interlocking and fracture of surface oxides upon impact, leading to a denser and more cohesive coating. For increased bonding, Nitrogen and Helium are used - especially when heat treatment isn't an option.
The end result? Improved bonding and performance.
