EB-PBF Tungsten Penetrators

In case you missed it at MILAM 2025, HAMR and Freemelt AB showed off some recent AM tungsten builds! Here are some as-printed penetrator rounds straight off the Freemelt One EB-PBF system at Neighborhood 91.

Tungsten Penetrators straight out of the Freemelt EB-PBF system!

Tungsten has the highest melting point of all metals and exceptional stiffness and strength at temperature.  However, this high melting point, combined with poor machinability, causes challenges in traditional manufacturing of pure tungsten and tungsten alloy components. Electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) can easily melt and maintain elevated part temperatures, allowing the manufacturing of crack sensitive materials through better thermal management!
